Bristol Acupuncture
Western Medical Acupuncture is a form of acupuncture that
integrates the traditional Chinese medical techniques with
Western evidence based research. This approach to
acupuncture focuses on treating specific conditions,
such as pain and musculoskeletal disorders and is not used
for diagnosis, unlike Chinese medicine diagnosis.
Research studies have shown that acupuncture stimulates the release of endorphins, the body’s natural pain relieving chemicals. These provide both pain relief and promote healing in the body.
Application involves the use of single-use, pre-sterilised disposable needles of varying widths, lengths and materials that pierce the skin at the acupuncture points to stimulate nerves, muscles, and connective tissues.
The locations of the points are chosen on the basis of an assessment of the cause of the imbalance. A number of needles may be used during each treatment, and these are typically left in position for between 20 and 30 minutes before being removed.
